the pioneer.

Look at this guy! Pretty handsome, isn't he?
But more interesting may be the fact, that this man is called a father of computation
for architecture! Let me introduce to you JOHN FRAZER, pioneering computer technologies
in architecture, urbanism and design.

His great achivements
John Frazer is acknowledged as a leader in the field of evolutionary digital design
and the originator of the Evolutionary Digital Design Process. His book An Evolutionary Architecture is considered the seminal work in the field. Work embraces the domains
of intelligent and interactive design systems, sustainable design, participatory
and co-operative design and computer generated design.
His pioneering research
and teaching was nurtured at Cambridge University, the Architectural Association in London, the University of Ulster, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Queensland University
of Technology. His work has been presented worldwide in lectures and conferences
and extensively published in journals and books
He founded and directed award winning software company, Autographics, which in the late 70s developed and marketed the world’s first microcomputer based design systems and was amongst
the pioneers in the use of computers
in design education. He is also acknowledged as creator of the discipline of tangible interfaces with papers
and patents from the late 70s onwards. Recently honoured with giving
the opening keynote at TEI 2010
in the new Media Lab at MIT in recognition of being the world pioneer
in the field.
This work on interactive
and intelligent environments was applied
In particular to the GENERATOR project with Cedric Price now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)
in New York.
Personal research focuses on generative and evolutionary computing
for sustainable design, public participation in design and planning, and interactive design
and tangible interfaces.
Author of An Evolutionary Architecture (1995) which proposed
a new model of the design process fundamentally realigning the roles of the user,
the tool and the means of construction. The computer uses generative and evolutionary computing techniques to become the accelerator of the co-operative evolution of a sustainable future architecture and the means of prediction, exploration and evaluation
of multiple possible future design trajectories.

Some useful programs:)

There are lots of software which can be used to create the world of buildings, projects and other useful architectural tools. I decided to present you a few of them.
So... Let's start the adventure of designing!

AutoCAD
Certainly the most popular CAD software among students;) But, of course, it's the powerful tool  for architects, engineers and designers.
AutoCAD is an industry leader in 2D and 3D CAD design, drafting, modeling, architectural drawing, and engineering software.
Only a few of its features you can see below:

MegaCAD
It is a program that allows you the creation of design specifications, dimensional drawings and models block-surface. Additional external applications adapt it to manage different types of networks: terrain, or located inside the building. Location of network elements
are defined in a way that graphic (in MegaCAD), and their technical parameters -
in the database (eg Access).
And, of course, some screenshots for you:

Make an impression, aren't they?

Vertex BD
Vertex BD-aided design spatial models of buildings in the line of the building: automatically generates the model, and working papers. The latest version also allows you to design
in any view, and all documents (the model and drawings) are interrelated.
It can be used to design even a fairly large objects, allows for "intelligent" model decomposition into smaller parts.

And the last one.. My favourite- Sketchbook Pro :) !!!
SketchBook Pro provides professional designers and artists from all industries
with an unique hybrid of paint and vector workflows for more precise design illustration
and graphic communication.
Sketchbook Pro has an uncluttered interface, and painting and drawing tools
such as pencils, markers, and brushes. By using the pressure-sensitive features of graphics tablets, tablet computers, and smartphones, it can help artists sketch and create effects similar to traditional materials.
And now a few samples of the program features:

As you see there are plenty of different programs, patches and accessories.
Computation for architecture is growing so rapidly and the amount of software allows engineers to select the most appropriate to their needs.

Magic of CAD!

Can you recognize this building?
It's "Złote Tarasy" centre, located in Warszawa Śródmieście.
It's hard to believe that the building of such a strange, irregular shape was possible to build.  But there is no magic in it. Only a pure technology;)
Let's focus on it!

yay! I've been there! Me & my friends in "Zlote Tarasy"

Development of digital technology has caused changes both in the theory
of architecture, design methodologies and production technologies in construction.
The most innovative and advanced architecture of the past 10 years would not be possible without computers. In the 90 graphics programs were used primarily
for the presentation of the project, which previously was in the imagination
of the architect. Today's computers can not only create and analyze design options
but also have the potential to generate advanced geometrywhich goes far beyond what can be drawn by hand.
"For architects (...) the computer is not only a tool to facilitate work on the design of the building, but an integral part of the design proces,
the door
to new worlds in which non-Euclidean forms are
as natural as the
cube and balls for the previous generation"
Philip Jodidio
CAD technology.
Have you heard something about AutoCAD? It's a software application for CAD and drafting, in both 2D and 3D formats. But wait.. What is CAD?!

The CAD simulation of centre Pompidou-Metz
CAD (also known as CADD)
is an abbreviation of Computer-Aided Design. It's the use of computer technology for the process
of design and design-documentation. CAD describes the process of drafting with a computer. CAD software provides the user with input-tools
for the purpose of streamlining design processes; drafting, documentation, and manufacturing processes.
Cad software uses vector based graphics to depict the objects
of traditional drafting, or may also produce raster graphics shovig the overall appearance of designed objects.

CAD often involves more than just shapes.
As in the manual drafting of technical and engineering drawings, the output of CAD must convey information, such as materials, processes, dimensions, and tolerances
according to application-specific conventions.

CAD is an important industrial art extensively used in many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, industrial and architectural design, prosthetics, and many more. CAD is also widely used to produce computer animation for special effects in movies, advertising and technical manuals.
The modern ubiquity and power of computers means that even perfume bottles
and shampoo dispensers are designed using techniques unheard of by engineers
of the 1960s. Because of its enormous economic importance, CAD has been a major driving force for research in computational geometrycomputer graphics (both hardware and software), and discrete differential geometry.

As you see, CAD offers a bunch of possibilities. It's not an easy software, but if you mastered the art of design, you may realize any of your ideas!

Beauty of the Polish buildings
Thanks to CAD the polish architects can create such wonders as Sea Towers in Gdynia
or PGE Baltic Arena in Gdańsk.

You can see  incredible simulations of those buildings below:

Let's create somethin' !

Tuesday evening.
I'm listening the music and right now In my Winamp goes "Take on me" by A-ha.
Do you know this song?
The music-video is really amazing .. The girl is reading

comics, and then.. The main character comes alive and becomes a reality!
I really love that!

//but if you don't recognize that song at all, watch THIS!!! //

Inspired by the song I drew a cartoon city. Haha, I know it's funny but it took me only
5 minutes to sketch it.

But my question for now is:
What if you could revive them?
Impossible? Absolutely not! ;)

With the current capabilities of the relevant computer software,  you can show
the beauty and disadvantages of future buildings on your computer screen.
You can also carry out the simulations and tests,  make a full-automatic technical documentation, plans, projections, shots..
Don't you believe me?
In that case, I invite you to browse my blog;)
Welcome to the World of COMPUTATION FOR ARCHITECTURE!!!

How does this computation type influence my life?
well, most of the buildings that surround me, have been designed in software for architects. Thanks to computation engineers were able to select appropriate materials for construction and estimate construction costs.

My expectations.
I study
Informatics and Econometrics. But my great dream is to study something associated with the graphics and architecture. My roommate studies Spatial Development which I found really interesting:) He often outlines new buildings, prepares spatial...
And he creates all of this in AutoCAD!

I haven't had a chance to work with this program, but  I'm going to learn how to use it during summer.
I'm closer to Photoshop and CorelDraw, but unfortunately I don't have the right equipment
to make my own architectural projects. I dream of something like this:
And I already have the funds to purchase this small piece of miracle :)

What's next?
As I previously said, I'm going to start another studies connected with computation for architecture. I'm interested in designing and creating and I want to do something connected with them in my future:) I want to do something creative and make it with passion! I hope that someday my dream come true:)
